Day 4: "i miss you" poem

i miss you.....

i miss you
already
only moments
since you left
i miss you
like a tiny baby deer
watching it's father leave their nest
for the very first time
knowing he will return, and soon, but not exactly when
feeling this new solitude and aloneness
like a jacket she doesn't want to wear, but will
he gently zippers up the coat, tight against her small body
so gently
so as not to wake her up from the slumber
the sleep of the sleeper
feeling the walker move into the dreamtime
knowing he will return with berries and roots and shoots
information
of the other world
everything just for her
trusting the wait is only the present moment, not the future
hunkering down deep into their nest
every muscle ready for the first sign of his return
a crunched branch, a crackled leaf
a breath of new wind moving through
his familiar voice quietly filling up the space
but now
watching him don his identity, a wrap of armour
a shroud of protection to keep him safe along the way
a layer of protection from the lions and the wolves
but now
she doesn't recognize him anymore
but she is ok, she knows
the truth
the certainty
for surely
he will shed it all
before he once again returns
their den is safe
isn't it?
