Day 39 Juice: Seduction of the World Poem

of course
we know the truth
but there will always be
a reason to wait
like the uninvited guest
at the bridesmaids party
unwelcome
uncomfortable
underdressed
but still we stay
and stare
for the sheer beauty
the rounds of her breasts
the swing of her hips
the mystery of her mound
the seduction
the realization
we actually are
never going to leave
fuck
for this is it
the last time here
for all of us
there is never going to be
another chance
it's over
and we knew it
so many of us
came thronging back
nearly eight billion now
we marched the earth
right to destruction
and still we knew
but her scent
was too strong
her lips
too full
she was warm
and wet
dark and deep
earth
soil
oceans
stars
she was too bright
too vast
too sultry
too everything
of that which we longed for
everything we came for
disguised as the truth
and so we take
one step forward
and so we take
ten steps back
like a magnet
even when we look away
and even when we walk away
still
she draws us in to her
i met you
in that brief moment
when you saw her for what she was
but time is fleeting
and truth is effervescent
death is looming
and there are books to be read
money to earned
rivers to be paddled
trails to be walked
and work to be done
i fit into this world
like a mouse
accidentally
shut in the house for the day
a bird
trapped in the rafters
a snake
coiled under the stove
a centipede
found in the shower
confused
bewildered
uncertain
only knowing
there is nowhere else to be
we have only years
maybe only days
and still
we cannot walk away
and still
we cannot see
hope slowly fades
truth becomes a memory
our bodies slowly awaken
to each new day
but our eyes are dull
clouded
we've destroyed our planet
each river
stream
ocean
estuary
there isn't one breath left to take
that is still clean
there isn't one sip left to drink
that is still pure
we've trapped all the animals
chopped down all the trees
poisoned our soil
and still we refuse
to change
and still we refuse
to awaken
